I'm at that miserable stage of looking at all of the food (see: MONEY) that is in the house, and knowing exactly how much of it cannot be here once we go GFCF.
Yes, I could have just A. go GFCF, but that doesn't seem fair to her. She's only 7, and while she really wouldn't complain very much about having to eat different things than everyone else, it would hurt her feelings far too much for me to be able to tolerate it. Instead of just having her make this drastic change, R. A. D. & I will all be going GFCF together.
This means I have a huge amount of things in the house that have to slowly be assimilated from our diet, and many of them are things that generally last a very long time -- barley and bags of flour, for example. So to try to get rid of all of these things, I've been going through the cupboards and taking mental inventory of everything that must go. Fortunately for us, we've only been in this state for a month, so we haven't managed to amass so much food that we get to the point that much of it just has to be thrown away. Instead, it's just having to get really creative to clear the house out of the things in our diet through recipes.
I killed a good amount of flour today by making what A. & D. like to call "Blueberry 'Yummy'", because it's...well, it's effin' yummy. This will be one of the recipes that I most definitely have to adapt for GFCF, because it's delicious, and incredibly inexpensive (at least it is now -- trial and error will reflect if the batter substitution will be considered "cheap" once I've found a texture/taste blend that works).
